The website itself is safe to go to, but the community there... it isn't that great. I've started to realize this when I went on the worst people of all time list there, and I've found Justin Bieber on #20, above other obviously worse people (Vladimir Putin, Emperor Hirohito, Adolf Eichmann, Jeffrey Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Hideki Tojo, Albert Fish, Xi Jinping, etc). If you go there expecting civil behavior, 100% accurate list placements, and only the very finest lists, you might get disappointed VERY quickly. Basically another one of those sites that are safe, but have a bad community.
It's a completely safe and reputable website, but the people there tend to be extremely toxic. This website is memed to be a dumpster fire for a REASON.
The website itself is COMPLETELY safe, but it's been completely overrun by comment bots, clickbaiters, generic reaction content, carbon copies of popular YouTubers, and more. The ad moderation here is also poor, as thirst trap anime ads, scam ads, and political propaganda are let through without a problem.

The removal of the dislike counter has also made it more difficult to spot misinformation, fake tutorials, scams, bad apologies, bad content in general, etc, and by the time you figure out it's one of THESE videos, the uploader would already have gotten a view, or even MONEY.

Not to mention there have been many cases of double standards on YouTube. In one case, one specific creator was being paid up to 5 times less than other creators who make similar types of content, and in another case, another creator was demonetized and age-restricted for showing content MARKIPLIER can show while still being fully monetized.

Also, even if your content is 100% original, you still aren't safe from copyright abusers. One of TheFatRat's songs was copyright claimed by some random degenerate and all of the money was going to the claimer, until YT one day reversed it, likely due to protests. There was also a clickbaiting scammer called Supremacy who used to copyright claim everything that tried to call him out (thankfully, he doesn't do that anymore, and his main channel with lots of subs is terminated), and the likely ongoing Thumb Media situation.

If you think karma will eventually get to everyone, you're naive and innocent as f***. I bet if anyone even TRIES to sue Google (the current owner of YT), the suer would likely lose in 5 seconds because Google basically has access to the best lawyers in the world and can easily deflect every suing attempt while in a COMA. Heck, if one of Japan's prime ministers can basically get away with some of the worst war crimes in existence during WWII, you bet anyone can get away with anything.

I can easily go on, but I don't feel like it right now, but just know, taking on a YouTube carrer is going to be extremely difficult because of these problems alone.
